About the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal

The Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal was founded following Barry Kilby’s own prostate cancer diagnosis, with a mission to promote early detection and save lives. Today, we work nationwide to provide accessible PSA testing, raise awareness, and support men and their families.

Our Story – From Diagnosis to Action

The Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal began after Barry Kilby, former Burnley FC vice-chairman, was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. Faced with the reality that early detection could have made a difference, Barry was determined to create a movement that would offer other men a better chance. His vision was simple yet powerful: raise awareness of prostate cancer and make PSA testing more accessible to men across the UK.

Since its founding, the appeal has grown into a trusted national charity, reaching men through football grounds, golf clubs, and other community venues. By taking testing into places where men naturally gather, the appeal has encouraged thousands who may not otherwise visit their GP. This proactive approach continues to save lives through early diagnosis.

Our Mission – Detect Early, Survive Longer

At the heart of the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal is a clear message: early detection saves lives. Prostate cancer often develops without obvious symptoms, meaning many cases are discovered too late. Through our work, we aim to change this by promoting awareness and providing men with the opportunity to take a simple PSA blood test, either at an event or in the comfort of their home.
Our mission extends beyond testing. We want to educate men and their families about prostate cancer, highlight the importance of regular checks, and support those who receive further investigations. Every test is a chance to spot cancer earlier, giving men access to treatment that can significantly improve survival rates. Detect early, survive longer – that is our guiding principle.

Working Together to Make a Difference

The appeal could not achieve its impact without the dedication of volunteers, supporters, and partners who share our vision. From medical professionals and local sports clubs to fundraising champions, every contribution strengthens our ability to provide life-saving testing. Collaboration is at the heart of our success, helping us expand our reach across the country.

We believe that saving lives from prostate cancer is a community effort. By working alongside other charities, health organisations, and local businesses, we create opportunities for men to take proactive steps in protecting their health. With continued support, we will increase awareness, reach more men with testing, and ultimately make a lasting difference to families across the UK.
